
Designed specifically for the System Protection technician/engineer responsible for the alignment and maintenance of a Power Line Carrier system. PowerComm Solutions Model 630 PLC Line Simulator permits the user to simulate the Power Line characteristics for troubleshooting and pre-setting tuners. There are three main features designed into the Model 630; line impedance, coupling capacitance and a 25 Watt 50 ohm non-inductive dummy load.
The output of the unit is designed with three (3) binding posts in a triangular fashion (see Figure above). These binding posts are designed to accept a standard Banana to BNC adapter or standard banana leads from common voltmeters. The simulator was designed to permit the user to work with the impedance and capacitive elements independently or introduce both the capacitance and impedance into the circuit simultaneously by simply switching the position of the output connection to their equipment under test.
Line Z
The line impedance portion is a 12-position switch with resistance (impedance) values starting at 200 ohms and ending at 600 ohms. The values step at approximately 25 ohms per position from 200 to 400 ohms. The last position is 600 ohms, which was included to provide the technician also responsible for audio tone protection a 600 Ohm dummy load.
Coupling Capacitance
The coupling capacitor portion is a 10 position rotary switch with capacitive values starting at .001 uf and ending at .01 uf in steps of .001 uf. A series of 3 toggle switches to the right of the rotary switch permit the user to add capacitance values of 150 pf, 250 pf & 500 pf for greater accuracy. These additional values (and any combination of the three) will permit the user to accurately simulate most coupling capacitor values in service today.
Dummy Load
The 50 ohm 25 Watt non-inductive dummy load provides the technician another necessary tool in the alignment of the PLC system. This dummy load can be accessed via a standard BNC female connector on the front panel of the decade box.
